In for service today was this 1984 Coventry Climax GA4.0. Built at the Company’s Sandy Lane Works, in Coventry,  then part of British Leyland Commercial Vehicles Division, and probably one of the last of these machines built before the longest established forklift manufacturer in the UK was aquired by Kalmar Group.

Most components were UK sourced including :  Perkins engine, Peterborough (LPG version of their renowned 4.236 diesel unit),     Borg-Warner Transmission, Letchworth,      Lucas Electrics & Good Year Tyres, Birmingham,     Unipart exhaust system, Coventry,     Counterweight & axle castings from FH Lloyd at Doncaster,      Chassis, mast and rear axle components all made “in house”

Times change and some of the suppliers mentioned above have either closed or been merged into larger global businesses but the fundamental designs of this machine can be seen in the modern trucks of today.
